     Directions

    Terry G. Burgess is the TSA Assistant Federal Security Director for Regulatory Inspections for western North Carolina.  He was selected for this position in April 2005.  In this role, Mr. Burgess is responsible for aviation/cargo regulatory oversight for western North Carolina to include the Charlotte, Asheville and Concord  airports. He is also responsible for surface regulatory oversight for all of North Carolina. In 1990, Mr. Burgess began working for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Office of Civil Aviation Security.  While with the FAA, he worked in both domestic and international offices.  Mr. Burgess spent seven years in the FAA Security Office in Nashville, working as a Special Agent.  In 1997, he transferred to the FAA’s office in Frankfurt, Germany and served three years as an international team leader conducting international assessments and inspections in Europe and the Middle East. Mr. Burgess has conducted security inspections and assessments in over 35 countries during his career in the government. In 2000, Mr. Burgess transferred to FAA headquarters and served as the Principal Security Inspector responsible for Continental Airlines and TWA. In 2002, Mr. Burgess was selected as the first Federal Security Director for the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and established TSA operations at that airport. In 2004, Mr. Burgess transferred to TSA headquarters when he was selected as the Deputy Assistant Administrator (DAA) in charge of TSA’s domestic and international regulatory program. That regulatory program was the precursor to TSA’s current Office of Compliance and was responsible for regulatory oversight for all TSA’s  aviation and cargo inspections both domestic and international. In 1985, Mr. Burgess graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a BS degree in Aerospace.  In 1982, while attending MTSU, he earned his pilot’s rating.
